This thread is for ideas and comments that we want to remember to bring up at the next meeting. I will keep this top entry updated with everyone's ideas so we don't have to fish down through everything, but please add your comments and ideas below so we don't forget about them.

#1 The first proposal is that I'd like to see the club itself start to purchase materials and supplies for things like tech day and general purchasing. So right now if I wanted to build a new antenna and needed some feed line or connectors, I could contact the club and purchase it from them. The club could purchase in bulk for cheaper prices and then mark things up slightly to make a little extra money for the club's future. It would also enable us to standardize on material we're all using and insure we don't buy junk because we didn't know better. :-)

2) Would like to work up ideas on how we can better support the local search and rescue groups to handle their radio processes.

3) Would like to see if we can have the club purchase supplies to build up some APRS devices to use with local search and rescue. We could then send out at least 2 operators to track them on a computer system and help them maintain the best grids as they search. Would help us learn about the devices, tracking and antenna designs that work best.

ARRL is asking for assistance in getting Congress to pass HR2160, The Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Enhancement Act of 2009. Should we as a club write a letter to our representatives or should this be an individual task? If you would like more information, go to: http://www.arrl.org/news/stories/2009/05/12/10818

I personally think its a good idea to write it as a club and then we all sign it. I might give it a bit more influence...

I also think that a club letter would carry a little more weight.

Everyone should read the full text of the bill before writing any letter.

That sounds like a great idea.... since Henry County seems not to be serious about setting up a full function Ham station at the EOC. Guess we just relay voice to Clayton County to send to State and regional commands when the lights go off.

We have been asked by Dutchtown High School to help train ham operators in the Technology class. This will require a demo sometime in the future and help with lessons. Mr. Anttero Graham is going to see if he can meet us this weekend. If we can get a club in one school the it wont be to hard to get started in others. The hobby of curiosity and wonder will grow again in our youth.. Roy

I spoke to Don Ash today and he said he is looking at other Counties to see what kind of set up he wants in the LEOC. He will get back with us with a time and place for a sit down face to face meeting so we can smooth out any wrinkles that crop up.
