We are pleased to announce two training opportunities for the month of May.Due to the overwhelming response to the first class, we will be presenting the active shooter class again. For those who were not able to attend our first class, please make plans to attend. Remember we are opening this up to the public so tell your friends! We look forward to having a large group again.

For CERT members only – Emergency Communications is one of the basic skills that every CERT team members must have. We would like to encourage all members to participate. During the class you will have some “hands on” training with our CERT radios. Communicating with each other during an emergency is critical, please make plans to attend.

Healthcare Coalition Invitation:
You are invited to attend the Emergency Preparedness Healthcare
Coalition Meeting on Friday, January 25th, 12:00 noon, at the Clayton
County Board of Health – Battlecreek Office (Directions below);

The Healthcare Coalition provides an opportunity for government and
non-government healthcare providers and staff to meet and discuss the
overall preparedness efforts and needs for Clayton County.

Although this is very short notice, I hope you will be able to come,
even for a short time. If you are not able to come, perhaps there is
another representative from your office that can attend in your place.

Rick Speak from Southern Regional will be discussing their recent
Active Shooter Drill.

Beth Durmire from Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services will be
there to discuss Emergency Management’s role in an emergency or

Directions: Take I-75 to Exit 233 (Jonesboro Rd, Hwy 54), turn right
off the exit. Go about 2.5 miles and turn right on Battlecreek Rd (Chevy
Dealer is on the corner). We are about one block on the left.

Enter the first gate and park anywhere except reserved spots. You may
also use any of the factory parking spaces across the lot. Enter
building by going up the ramp and through the double door.

If you are coming north from Jonesboro on Highway 54, turn left on
Battlecreek, turning left into the first gate as above.

If you are coming north from Jonesboro on Tara Blvd, turn right onto
Battlecreek and turn right at the 2nd gate and park as noted above.

Sgt. Morrison is the newest member of the Emergency Management Team. He comes from the Fire Service with 8 years of fire and ems experience. His certifications include: EMTP, Georgia Search and Rescue, Haz-Mat Operations, SWAT Medic and Post Certified Law Enforcement officer. Please make plans to attend this important training and welcome Sgt. Morrison to our team.

Mr. Baker has been a valuable member of Emergency Management as a volunteer for many years. He is a member of our CERT team as well. His experience in communications on the technical as well as user end is extensive. We are fortunate to have Mr. Baker and his CARES operators to teach this important class for us.
Course Topics:

The topics that will be discussed in this unit are:

  • §Introduction
  • § The role of CERT communications during an activation
  • § Communications plans
  • § Communications modes
  • § Basic radio anatomy
Please make plans to attend these important trainings. Respond to this e-mail with name and phone number to reserve your spot. Indicate which class(es) you will be attending. These classes are limited only by class space of 40.
Also, you may come by the Emergency Management office to pick up your class materials starting today. This will provide you with the opportunity to review the material ahead of time and that gives our instructors more time with the “hands on” portions of the class.
