Just letting everyone know that I finally got around to fixing the problems with how the website displays in Internet Explorer. I think everything (while not totally perfect) is working properly now. Please let us know if you find anything else that doesn’t quite look right between the different browsers. While it’s impossible to make them all look exactly the same, we should be able to come close.
We wanted to take a minute to go through some of the changes to the website. As mentioned previously we have disabled being able to login or setup an account on the main website unless you have previously been setup to write articles. These articles are things we want to share with the public or within the club that are important enough to make part of the main website.
For regular club members you will use the main site to stay up to date with the latest news, but will instead click on the Forum link either in the top right welcome area or down beside the login link. This will take you into the main communication hub for our club. This is the area we’ll all be posting questions, bragging about our latest gear or cool things we’ve learned at the latest tech day or pretty much anything else, club related or not. In order to view the links and supporting documents in the forum you’ll need to setup an account over there so that you can log in. This will display additional tools and options that you won’t see if you’re not logged in.
We highly encourage everyone to use the forum to communicate with each other from this point forward. Your communications and information will be shared with the world and the more information we have the more valuable other HAM’s will find our site and will begin to use it. The only way we’ll ever reach that point however is if we all grab hold and use it.
As always, let Noel or I know what things you like or don’t like about the site and we’ll get them knocked out as quickly as possible.
Field Day is rapidly approaching, our Field Day event will be at Henry Medical Center in Stockbridge. We will have a public relations station at the North Entrance to the hospital. Our main operating area will be in the “penthouse”, where we will have roof access to put up our antennas. Due to hospital security requirements anyone going up to the penthouse will have to be escorted by an authorized club member. Any visitors or guests wishing to participate should report to the PR station for an escort. We will be monitoring both the KE4UAS 444.875+ (100) and the WA4DIW 145.170- (146.2) for talk-in.
Tech Day was scheduled to occur on June 13th but due to scheduling conflicts we will hold it on Field Day. The Tech Day project is building coax cables for the shiny new antennas that we built at the last Tech Day. So come on out to Field Day and bring your cabling supplies.
Please join us on the forums to discuss these or any other upcoming events.
As you may have noticed the login block to the right is gone. Since we now have a functional forum, the main site login is not of any use to anyone who is not a content creator for the site. So to avoid confusion for every one, I have removed the login block and added a login link into the top menu. Most of you will not need the login on the main site, so you can ignore the login link.
As you may or may not have noticed there are some website changes afoot.
First change is the new forum page. Glenn KI4QDT and I are in the process of setting up the forum layout. The new forum is a much better solution then the old forum, however you will need to go to the forum page and create a new user. The user’s login and password can be the same as the one you used for the main site.
Second is that comments have been disabled on all pages of the website except the forum. This has been done to provide a more professional look to the site and to consolidate all discussion to one area of the website.
The third change, that is not done yet but will be soon, is the adding of a photo gallery. The gallery will allow us to keep photo albums showing various club activities and is good for public relations.
There will be more changes to come, but those are the immediate ones.
